Launch of The Libya Initiative - Tripoli May 4, 2013
On May 4th, 2013, the official launch of The Libya Initiative - an action plan promoting social-healing and social justice across Libya created by the Ara Pacis Initiative and Mubadara Libya Assalam - took place in Tripoli. "The Human Dimension of Peace: Towards a Political Culture of Forgiveness and Reconciliation", Rome July 2-3, 2012
The Ara Pacis Initiative, in collaboration with the Italian Government, brought together a renowned group of peacemakers in Rome July 2-3, 2012 for a series of events focused on the human dimension of peace. The public event - "The Human Dimension of Peace: Towards a Political Culture of Forgiveness and Reconciliation" – took place on July 3rd and centered on a keynote address by Leymah Gbowee, one of the 27 founders of our Initiative and 2011 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. Hosted and chaired by the President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Hon. Gianfranco Fini, the event featured Salomón Lerner Febres, President Emeritus of the Pontifical University of Peru and former head of the Peruvian Reconciliation Commission and Jean Baptiste Habyalimana, Executive Secretary of the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission of Rwanda. The event was closed by Italy's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Giulio Terzi di Sant'Agata.On the previous day, a closed-door workshop was held with the guests as well as with Imam Yayha Sergio Yahe Pallavicini and relevant Foreign Ministry directors and officials in order to design the structural and operational basis of a new "areopagus": an agile, mobile, inclusive and operational public-private mechanism aimed at catalyzing, proposing and implementing humanistic and victim centered action plans aimed at breaking the cycles of violence, healing societal wounds and accompanying traumatized communities towards reconciliation, stability and peace; a social healing body that can harness, coordinate and cross-pollinate the best human dimension practices at both the institutional and local levels, supplementing and complementing conventional peacebuilding efforts. Inauguration of the Council April 19-22, 2010
Between April 19 and 21st Rome reaffirmed its role as the capital of dialogue and peace, hosting the inauguration of the international Council for Dignity, Forgiveness Justice and Reconciliation, a body dedicated to catalyzing efforts related to the human dimension of peace. Nearly 50 Members, hailing from over 20 countries around the globe gathered to give birth to the Council under the auspices of the Mayor of Rome, Hon. Gianni Alemanno.

Presentation of the Ara Pacis Initiative - December 2, 2009
On December 2, 2009, the Ara Pacis Initiative was formally announced to the public in an event featuring reconciliation leaders: Izzeldin Abuelaish (Gaza), Ali Abu Awwad (West Bank), Robi Damelin (Israel), Leymah Gbowee (Liberia) and Hatidza Mehmedovic (Bosnia-Herzegovina) who presented their work to Rome's citizens and secondary school students. Dr. Abigail Disney also participated in the event, screening her award-winning documentary, Pray the Devil Back to Hell, on the women's peace movement in Liberia, inspired by Leymah Gbowee.
