The Power and Limitations of Forgiveness

8 April 2011 - "Forgiveness: A Time to Love and a Time to Hate", a forthcoming PBS film by acclaimed writer, producer and director Helen Whitney, explores the timely, nearly ubiquitous applications and limitations of the concept and practice of forgiveness through a compelling range of stories, from personal betrayal to global reconciliation after genocide. Divided into two 90-minute acts which will air on April 17th and 24th on PBS stations across the United States, the film suggests that the decision to forgive or not is a choice at the heart of our shared humanity. Interviewed at length in the film, Ara Pacis Initiative Founding Member Donald Shriver makes the case that societies cannot truly recover from the injustices in their past without acknowledging them publically. Embassies Gather for Stakeholders Meeting

25 March 2011 - Representatives of fifteen Diplomatic Missions gathered yesterday in Rome for a stakeholders meeting organized by the Ara Pacis Initiative and hosted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. API Members Nominated for 2011 Nobel Prize

10 February 2011 - Kristian Berg Harpviken, Director of the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), believes that the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded to a female activist who has led the way towards new paths for peace. Among those on his shortlist are Ara Pacis Initiative Founding Member Leymah Gbowee as well as Memorial/Svetlana Gannushkina and Ory Okolloh.  Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela, also a Founding Member of API, is likewise mentioned as a strong contender.
